FAQs about Mold release coating for NiL
What is a mold release agent?
A chemical agent used to smoothly remove materials from a mold in a moldless process. Mold release treatment on precision molds (molds) enables continuous transfer, high-speed transfer, etc.
Is it different from the mold release agent used in the general press process?
There are two types of mold release agents used in the general molding process: interlayer mold release agents, which are applied between the mold and the molding material to form a film that breaks down and releases the film on its own; and interface mold release agents, which release the film by lowering the surface tension of the component coordinated to the interface of the mold. Because of their low cost, wax and silicone-based interlayer release agents are usually used. However, they require a certain thickness of several tens of microns to several microns and can only be used for rough molds. In contrast, fluorine-based interface release agents can be used for molds that require greater precision, as they can be removed by a dry coating film.
Are there any precautions to be taken when using mold release agents?
Care should be taken to avoid absorption of moisture and volatilization of solvents.
What materials can be coated on precision molds?
Glass, silicon, quartz, and Ni electroforming.
Can you provide custom-made specifications?
To some extent, processing patterns are fixed, but can be tailor-made upon request.
How many shots are possible?
It depends on the NiL printing equipment, so it is difficult to say.
What are some applications of Nanoimprint Lithography?
There are many applications in optical components such as macro lenses, diffraction gratings, optical waveguides, and patterned media such as HD.
